Scientific context

From measurement geometry to 3D radiative transfer

Push-broom imagers acquire a cross-track detector line continuously along the orbit. Rotary cross-scanners sweep detector rows across a broad swath, while lidars measure vertically resolved atmospheric backscatter.

Each geometry samples a three-dimensional, horizontally inhomogeneous atmosphere differently. AERIA3D is concerned with accurately and efficiently modeling radiation in this kind of three-dimensional environment; it does not operate these satellites or provide live tracking data.
